Learning Center for Theater Workshops Location & Year: Houston, TX - 1994 Elkins worked with artist and theater and opera director Robert Wilson to renovate his property in Watermill. The existing structure is at the highest point on Long Island and had been a research and development office for Western Union. It was converted into studio/work space with a dormitory wing that houses a kitchen and dining facility. The renovation respected the plan of the original structure, using the central tower as a knuckle that united living and work spaces. The work transformed the laboratory into a seemingly symmetrical structure, though the interior spaces vary drastically, as called for by their function.
