Parkland's Rise Location & Year: Houston, TX - 1993 Participants in this design project were invited to reside on the site in a nature conservancy for four days, during which time they were to design and install their artworks. The designed and built seven 14-foot ladders, which she placed in the ground in a straight line at equal intervals, making the length of the piece more than 1,000 feet. The prescribed placement of the ladders allowed them to be observed as they were planted in the various conditions of the site, from open field, heavy thicket, to marsh. The installation was an examination of how critical the role of the environment is in perception.
